# Does the AI tell people they are talking to a bot?

> Yes: the AI DM assistant’s first message says it is an automated assistant for your business, and that saying “talk to a person” reaches your team. It says so again after 24 hours.

## Why it matters

People deserve to know when a reply is automated. Saying so is good practice, and in some places it is also the law. Being open about it also builds trust. Nobody feels tricked when they later learn it was a bot.

You do not need to write this yourself. The assistant does it for you.

## What people see first

The assistant’s first reply to a person starts with this line:

“You’re now chatting with an automated assistant for Your Business. I can help right away — just say "talk to a person" any time and I’ll pass you to the team.”

“Your Business” is the **Business name** you saved. Its answer to their question follows in the same message.

## When it says it again

It repeats the line when 24 hours or more have passed since it last said it. A person who comes back the next day is told again, so nobody misses it.

If it is unsure whether the line was sent before, it says it again. An extra line is better than a missing one.

## Saying “talk to a person”

Typing “talk to a person” hands the chat to you straight away. So do phrases like “real human”, “customer service” or “are you a bot?”. No AI reply is written for these.

The person then gets this message:

“Thanks — I’m passing this to the team. Someone will reply here shortly.”

If the disclosure is due, that message starts with “You’re interacting with an automated assistant for Your Business.” They then appear on your **Waiting for you** list. See [When does the AI assistant stop?](https://replavia.com/help/ai-assistant-handover-and-limits).

## The handover is final

Once the assistant hands someone to you, it never starts talking to them again. From then on, any reply that is not a keyword automation comes from you.

## Tips for your business name

- Use the name people know you by, such as “Maya’s Bakery”.
- Do not add a web address or a slogan. Punctuation and links are removed from this line, and long names are shortened.

## What about scripted automations?

A scripted automation sends your own words, so the disclosure is up to you. Replavia’s ready-made openers start with “Hey! This is an automated reply”.

If you write your own opening message without saying that, the automation builder asks **Does this say it is an automated reply?** It never stops you saving. It can only recognise English-style wording, so a disclosure in another language may still show the note.
